Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics of family perception of siblings with children with disabilities on the Kinetic Family Drawings. The study participants were 23 elementary school students who have siblings with disabilities and 20 elementary school students who have siblings without disabilities. The collected data were analyzed with cross-analysis, Fisher exact test, and interviews were implemented after the completion of the Kinetic Family Drawings test. The characteristics of family perception of siblings with children with disabilities on the Kinetic Family Drawings test were measured by 26 variables among a grading scale of Burns & Kaufman, 1970. As the results, the siblings' perception through style, symbol, content of action, distance of family person on the Kinetic Family Drawings were analysed. The results showed that the siblings with children with disabilities felt and thought the alienation from other family members. Thus, support programs for the siblings are needed for the positive impact on the siblings and their appropriate development and identification. The study also suggested to develop more valid and reliable instruments to understand the siblings' experiences and characteristics.
